Users may find that they are unable to save their SMTP configuration settings. Even if a "test email" works successfully, the system might prevent the final settings from being saved, leaving the configuration incomplete.
The issue occurs because the system requires a specific identification number (ID) to be generated before it can accept detailed server settings. If you try to enter all your server details and save them at once before the system has created this ID, the save request fails because it doesn't have a "home" or endpoint to go to yet.
To fix this, you must save the configuration in two distinct phases:
Phase 1: Create the Placeholder
Click on ADD SMTP Config, enter only a Name and Description, and click Save.
This tells the system to create a new entry in the database and assign it a unique ID number.
You will see a new SMTP label created in your list.
Phase 2: Enter Server Details
Click on the name of the SMTP configuration you just created. Look at the web address (URL) in your browser; you should now see a number at the end (e.g., /edit/3940).
Now that the ID exists, the system knows exactly where to store the technical details. You can now enter your server address, port, and security credentials.
Phase 3: Final Save
Click Save again after entering your technical details.
This commits your specific server settings to the ID created in Step 1.
The settings will be saved successfully, and your custom email server will be active.
